I dreamed of being a great parent. Some of those dreams are a little shakey, but some are close. I keep saying "little things make a big difference" and they do. That is, the stuff you actually do. e.g. when you're feeling exhausted and you're getting out of the car and one of the offspring is just sitting there lost in their own special world, and you want to lock the car and go inside (and keep stressing about whatever it was that was in your own 'monkey mind'). BUT all you've ever said about the 'little things' floods your synapses and you get it! You notice a breath and realise that it took about 15-20 seconds longer to just notice your child, really notice. You say something warm, notice your own soul and theirs, feel really good for about another 20 seconds, then back to the routine - mostly food and cleaning up food (and 'mindless' ranting and raving that achieves the exact opposite of your intended aims!).
"A [pretty basic] dream that will need all the love you can give, every day of your life for as long as you live. Climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow, till you find your dream".
I'm very grateful for the huge amount of music that surrounded me as a kid. Lots of dreaming and visionary words. As a younger adult I got into all sorts of music from the crooners to heavy metal. I like lyrics that dream big. I enjoy just as much the lyrics that hint at the irony of love and life.
So, the big challenge, actually doing - living the simple dream (vs just singing along with the nostalgic fantasy). Even 20 seconds a day of soul to soul connection is better than total fantasy...
PS here's a couple of clips that might evoke some dreaming and inspire 'a little' doing
1. Maria and Mo Sup
2. Christina - awesome
3. Guy Sebastian - of course
4. Beauty in me - The Whitlams "...playing with her phone like it's a rosary"
